Lately it seems all I am getting are calls from con artist. The only thing I have going for me is it has been happening so often, that I have began realizing what I need to say to them and ask them to find out who they really are.

Just this morning I got another call from a guy who introduced himself first stating he was with Reward Publishing and that I had made it to the finals. I would be able to win all kinds of great prizes. I told him I really don't remember signing up, but he says that it was online several months ago and I probably don't remember.

He then begins asking me if I have an email address, I answer yes, but he doesn't ask for the address. Then next he states he needs to confirm my name and address that was on the application, I say okay. Here's where the trouble begins, I first tell him he has to give me my name before I will tell him anything else, click, he hangs up.

Well, as you can see he probably was going to ask me a lot more things and he realized that I did not believe a word he was telling me. If you don't hear your name mentioned from the beginning of the conversation you know something must be going on. Then press them for your name if they say they need confirmation, because eventually they are going to ask for your bank account to be able to deposit your winnings or want some money from you for something. It is wise that you just hang up if you don't recognize the company they represent and even if you recognize the company, they still could be a con artist representing themselves off as a member of a well known company.

So please remember if you are elderly you are going to get hit by a con artist more often than the younger folks, I guess they think when we get old we lose our intelligence. I don't think we do but I do know we sure can get talked into things a lot easier. So it is wise to not answer phone calls that we don't know.

I can tell you being elderly is really dangerous. For some reason the elderly are the ones scammers seem to attack the most which really seems weird because most elderly are on Social Security and that money is not overwhelming. I guess because we are older we are more apt to believe what they have to say.

Well, I got hit up again, with a phone telling me that I won a cashiers check from Publishers Clearing House and he wanted to come by and drop it off. Right away I knew he was lying because I never signed up for the contest. He also told me his name was David Green, vary American, but had an accent.

I him I did not enter the contest, but he comes back that I just don't remember because it was so long ago. I still say I don't think so. I ask him where he lives, he says Las Vegas. I told him I didn't think he was born in America because he sound like he had a European or Mideastern accent, with a very American name. He wants to know if I think he is conning me. I tell there is a possibility. So he tells me to call a number with an area code 876 and ask for Mark Anderson. I said I would.

You won't believe what happens next, I was on my cell phone which I never use, it had just got 1500 minutes put on it that day. Well, the operator tells me I don't have enough minutes to make the call. I decide to look up on the computer where the area code is from, because that is where the call I had gotten was. The call was from Jamaica, while looking up that area code I also got so many warning saying don't answer the call with that area code because they are conners and will tell you have won all kinds of contest including lotteries.

So the point of this blog is beware of anyone telling you that you have won anything especially if you know you have not entered any contest. Also when they give you a very American name but have a very pronounce accent, guess what they are lying to you, just hang up or find out as much as you can about them so you can report them to the news or some legal agency to let other people know about them.
